About Bartmann Grunau

Bombarde and bagpipe (the former a precursor to the oboe and both wind instruments with double reeds) enter into an improvisational dialogue with noises and musical sounds of objects, samplers and loopers. Such processes, orchestrated and alienated in real time with special effects, result in nascent music, which was never intended to be completed, and always subject to new interpretations, developments and changes of direction. The fluid and changing sound formations, whose structures are sometimes characterized by minimalist transparency, sometimes by high dynamic density, offer multiple points of contact for new improvisations as well as opportunities for soloist expression.

In autumn 2017, Herbert Bartmann and Christoffer Grunau met in Oldenburg/Germany for an informal jam session lasting almost three hours. This was an improvisation session, which was actually only recorded for documentary purposes. It wasn't until some time later, after the extensive material had been heard, that a desire arose to publish excerpts of the session. During the improvisation, four musical pieces had developed, each approximately twenty minutes long. These were slightly edited and mixed in the studio. The results can be enjoyed on "seventyone:fiftyfour" which is internationally released on the label ruusmusik in late december of 2020.
